AlanHo;
Was quite correct when discribing the outcome of this new update, very disapointing after spending 30 mins to an hour downloading the new version and uploading to my vehicle. Then driving app 1,300 miles on a weeks holiday I have come to the conclusion that I much prefured the old version. I would not recommend any one to update at this present time. Just hope they bring out a newer version soon and iron out the glitches!! Wish I had seen AlanHo's comments before updating.
Updating maps
I Emailed KIA Customer Services about the problem with the Route Page on the satnav being greyed out which thus preventing you from creating or saving routes with waypoints.
This is their reply :-
The Quality team have confirmed that your previous version allowed multiple waypoints to be added but this function was dropped on the current one. If you're expecting the system to save your route, I'm sorry it won't do that. The developers are continuing to provide rolling improvements so please look for further updates.
I am thus left to hope that their next rolling improvement is to take a step back and remove their latest retrograde improvement. Otherwise my intention to upgrade to the new 2022 Niro will not happen.

I have to agree with AlanHo about the maps. The graphics are poor and a definite step back.
Also:
1. The opening screen is a boring purple "arty" construction which annoyingly seems to keep coming back when you restart the car
2. The old triple home screen I used on the previous version has gone. I used to have mpg screen, media/radio and map as a sort of triptych which I found very useful and informative, now the best you can get is a 2/3 size screen with selectable info and a pull out 1/3 screen with similar selectable info.
3. Radio 2/3 screen looks like it has been designed by a 5 year old. Frankly it's a mess, Station selection is a nightmare and most of the space is wasted because of a totally unnecessary large font station name. Media screen is also a mess.
I wish I'd kept the original version, even though it sent me off in odd directions sometimes.

Thanks to the info on this and other sites I've just updated the maps and nav system on my Niro PHEV MY18. At least I assumed it was MY18 as I got the car brand new in Jan 2019. Frankly updating is not for the faint-hearted. I download the update App from the Kia site https://update.kia.com/EU/E1/updateGuid ... id=cmp_5th and Niro PHEV MY18 was the obvious choice, although (as my nav system had not been updated previously) I'd no clue what "Compact Gen 5 Navigation" meant. The Kia Update software only allows you to write to a 32GB FAT32 formatted SD card. FAT32 (File Allocation Table, 32 Bit) is a system that came in with Windows 95!!! Following the instructions I attempted to write to a new 32 GB SD card but it kept failing at 99% complete. As I didn't have a second 32GB Card (apart from the original) I thought I'd try a spare 64GB card, but the Kia Update system refused it! However I found that the system first downloads all the files to the computer's hard disk, and then across to the SD card. So I copied these to the 64GB card, inserted this into SD slot in the car, and .......it worked. The Jury is still out as to whether this system is better than the original but hopefully the maps are now more current. Pictures of Original sw configuration, and the new. The map sw is the one that ends with 221.5.
Camiano - are you sure that you updated the latest maps.

I also switched on the wifi, which seems to be a new feature in the update, and connected to my home wifi. (It shows "Live" in the top left corner of the screen - see above picture). I wondered if it might link to Kia Connect which I downloaded onto my phone. I tried typing in the VIN into the Kia Connect app, as it suggests if you can't find a QR code. No joy - says "Not Available". If anyone else knows what the wifi connection does I'd be interested to know.....
My understanding is that certain models |(like mine) have their own data-only SIM card built into the car that connects to the KIA Connect server and back to yout KIA Connect App on your phone.
On my phone I get a notification when the car is left unlocked (and you can remotely lock it) - plus a notification of any other malfunction on the car.
The app displays on a map the car's location. the currect temperature, your home address, a calendar, user profile,, your trips, car status and vehicle status etc etc.
I guess that if KIA Connect will not stsrt on your car - your's is a model without a SIM connection.
