When I take delivery of my Niro 2, I hope to equip it with a full size spare, if it will fit into the boot well without to much hassle. Looking around it seems a direct match tyre and alloy together with jack and brace will cost about £250. Have any members done this already with their Niro. Any info' re' this would be appreciated.

hi. Yes this is an accessory i am looking into. I could accep a steel rim and suitable tyre as feel alloy is unnecessarily expensive as the spare would only be temporary. Usually the tyre and wheel market is awash with cheaper rims and tyres but of course with the Niro being fairly new the choice is limited. My plan is to buy from the market once options are availble and we know the rim specification such as offset and hole alignment/ depth. Of course the Niro might have the same rims as versions of Rio or Ceed??? Does anyone know this yet. Quite often the rim may show the part number which can be looked up for details ?

Ordered a full size spare last August when ordering the car. Collected car 2 Sept. - still no sign of spare.

Hi Greenman
How much did they charge you for the spare will it be the same type as fitted to the car?

They charged £380. I should have said there has been a development - it does now have a part number, though can't find what it is. I'm assuming from the price it will be identical to the wheels fitted. Mind you £380 was back when the £ was worth something.

Edit 11/03: correction paid £291 for spare wheel kit.

Thanks Greenman for that info'
The 16" alloy complete with the trim and wheel nuts is available from Kia Parts UK website for £133.73 and a Michelin energy saver GRNX can be brought and fitted by Halfords or Kwik Fit for under £90. Cheaper tyres will do the job, but having a like for like fitted to the car will not effect handling and can be used ongoing and a repaired tyre can be the used as your spare. Also could be used as part of a tyre rotation routine.
I will need to buy a jack and brace but should be able to get these for about £20.
Do you know if you have to remove the storage tray as well as the inflation kit and surrounding packing, and is your spare coming with the well retaining bolt?

Can't really help. As far as I'm concerned I ordered a car with a spare wheel i.e. wheel, tyre, and tool-kit, all installed as you'd expect to find a spare in any car.

It is a safe bet that the storage tray and inflation kit have to be removed. I have checked the well dimensions in the showroom and there is room only for the wheel.

I can't answer about the retaining bolt.

Checked with Dealer again yesterday. Still nothing in the pipe-line.

if you buy a spare wheel you will also have to fit it with a compatible TPMS sensor will you not!

And will this be automatically detected when fitted to the car ?
