Re: Battery Life??
Last winter, ours was not used for almost 3 months while we were away for the winter. User manual says remove the battery if it is going to be cold and the car will be unused. Instead, I bought a solar charger from Maplin and left that connected to the boot (electronics) battery. was 100% fine when ...

Re: Keeping a smart key safe
I can't believe the keys are transmitting all the time. The button battery would not last very long at all. More likely there is an RFID tag in the key fob that the car detects when you are close.

Battery level meter
The (traction) battery level meter on my First Edition barely moves. It sits around 50% +/- a little bit. Even after a long motorway run, when the engine is doing all the work, the meter never gets close to 100%. My previous hybrid was a Lexus. On that one, the battery meter went up and down the ful...

Re: Remove the battery
An update. The dealer did not know, and apparently couldn't be bothered to find out how to manage long (ish) storage of the car. We were away for 11 weeks. I used a Maplin Electronics solar trickle charger just placed on the dashboard, and connected to the battery in the boot. Despite my driveway be...

Re: insurance - the cost of it!
In my case with Hastings Direct I was paying about £220 for my Sportage KX4. It came down to about £165 for the Niro. I do carry
a big voluntary excess though.

Re: Fuel consumption
Only as reported by the computed consumption, I am getting 62 or more mpg in towns. Did a lot of driving around South West London. Lots of stop start and low speeds. On a long motorway run, it is dropping to low 50's. First edition.

Re: When should the gearbox change up to 6th gear
Took mine for a long run over the weekend. I am now 100% convinced that in auto, 5th is as far as it will go. In sport I can get it into 6th, but go back to manual and it drops to 5th every time. I wonder if you have uncovered a potential software upgrade requirement?

Re: Remove the battery
Thanks for the replies. I will ask around to see if if there is someone local who will take the car for a run. Good idea - Thanks. As for the suck it and see option, I can try this, but I am pretty sure the traction battery won't power the electronics. A couple of cars ago, I had a Lexus RX400 and c...

Remove the battery
Hi, The owners handbook says to disconnect the battery if the car will not be used for an extended period (Page 8/52). This is the "electronics" battery in the boot. We will be away for about 2 months. When I remove the battery cable, will the car still lock and the alarm still function fr...
