Re: Difference between PHEV Auto and Hybrid mode

I think we are all saying the same thing really - pure elctric with 'Off' pressed for pure local - further afield, use some pure elcetric to give headroom in the traction battery for regen. More than happy with myresults - all the new PHEVs (including the high end stuff) on the market still appear t...

Re: Flat Battery

I am led to understand the traction batteries do top a low 12v battery - my PHEV (18/68) advises on start up something along the lines that power has been used to top up the 12v.

Re: Difference between PHEV Auto and Hybrid mode

A topic all on its own is this. We have a V1 Niro PHEV (18/68) and I hope the following assists: In Auto PHEV battery is the main source of power until the electric range runs out - EXCEPT when high demand for things like AirCon etc happens- then the engine cuts in to provide the back up. Pressing t...

Re: OEM LED Headlight conversion (not to be confused with any kind of kits)

I have since heard from Osram re the HB3 / 9005 - it is NOT a direct replacement and will not do the job as it is high beam only. So for the time being, looks as if we are stuck with the KIA OEM supply - herewith their nresponse: Dear David, Thank you for your request. Please find the detailed answe...

Stale Petrol?

I have a 2018/68 Niro PHEV. So far very pleased with it. Under Covid, I am using no petrol at all as all my motoring is on battery only. The last fill up I had (supermarket) was in February and am unlikley to need a fill up again until the summer. Do I need to add anything to the fuel to stop any wa...

Re: OEM LED Headlight conversion (not to be confused with any kind of kits)

I have spoken to customer services at KIA UK and my local agent. No LED conversions are available warranted by KIA. I have come to the conclusion the only way to improve the headlamp output is fit replacement Halogen bulbs I have looked at the Hb3 Night Breaker Laser Next Gen 150 2st OSRAM W5w Ultra...

Re: Replacing headlight bulbs.

I have seen several posts on this subject (Honest John?) and the basic advice is DON'T. Best go (so they say) for high end halogens as upgrading to LED's is said to cost several hundreds of pounds/euros and requires alterations to the car's control systems. Advise also included NOT to use e.bay. It ...

Re: Niro DashCam install

Had mine fitted at Halfords - great job (Nexbase 322) for £125 inc fitting and 32Gb SD card.
Kia item (£126) is so basic it probably won't satisfy insurers (No GPS)
Local Kia agent wanted over £150 just to fit my own - they did not get the job (£92 per hour!!!!!)

Re: UK Spec 2020 Niro

The 2020 spec has an electric 'hand' brake. I have the earlier one with a foot operated parking brake - I HATE electric parking brakes so for that I am glad I've got what I have. Also the 2020 model has LED headlights - my one has halogens

Re: PHEV - over-revving and using petrol whist in Electric mode

Agree with Radar2018 - yes, the engine does kick in at start up even though the big battery is fully charged. I do as they suggest - hit the 'Off' button on bottom left hand side of Aircon group and that does kill the engine ALTHOUGH if its cold out there, so are you. I will try Bigbob's idea of usi...
