Re: whats the best mpg achieved over 100 mile plus drive

Best I have achieved on a long run (not quite 100+ miles, about 90-odd I think) was 74.3 but that was in winter and driving frugally - long stretches of 50mph average speed cameras on the M6. This evening I got back to Birmingham airport, drove through country lanes and about 8 miles of dual carriag...

Re: Driving tips to charge battery better.

The car will manage battery state of charge to within a fairly narrow band as this is the best way to preserve battery life. Assuming the lithium polymer batteries behave in a similar way to lithium ion, a specialist engineering colleague of mine who works on grid scale battery projects told me that...

Re: Michelin Cross Climate - fuel economy impact?

That sounds like an eminently pragmatic approach as far as I am concerned. For what it’s worth, I think I have only ever experienced oversteer once in a front wheel drive car - in wet conditions when I was a younger and more foolish chap, deliberately going quick around a roundabout in the wet to te...

Re: Michelin Cross Climate - fuel economy impact?

I understand that reputable fitters will always recommend putting new tyres on the rear. Any idea why this is - other than to reduce the risk of the rear tyres on a FWD car that only does average mileage dying of age rather than tread wear? Instinctively my gut says that the front tyres do the stee...

Re: Minor downsides of the Niro's specification

I thought the tailgate was plastic?

Anyway, you’re a braver person than me letting a 17 year old learner into the driving seat of a car as valuable as a Niro!

Re: Michelin Cross Climate - fuel economy impact?

Anyway, I am now up to 29k miles and still on the original set of front tyres - although they really are getting to Lex Autolease’s 3mm level! Anyone else out there made it to 30k miles or beyond on the original tyres?!

Niro vs Toyota C-HR

I was over in Germany last week and was given a Toyota C-HR as a hire car, thus allowing some interesting comparisons with the Niro. It’s difficult to do a comparison on price / value for money, since I don’t know what spec the Toyota was in comparison to my Niro 2. Overall, I was impressed with the...

Re: Bulb upgrade

Agree the factory lights look terrible against the DRLs - such a contrast in light colour. Feels like the look of the front of the car is marred by the lack of a tiny bit of extra effort to fit crisp white LED headlights as factory standard. Also agree that relative to my previous car, the headlight...

Re: TPMS issues in cold weather

I think that would be it (I.e. the pressures were a bit low, owing to low temperature). I filled all the tyres to 36psi on Saturday and the warnings went off. What I still find odd is that a warning shows on screen for one tyre and not another with exactly the same pressure in it (according to the o...
