Re: ANDROID AUTO™ AND APPLE CARPLAY™ FOR LATEST KIA MODELS

Hi Nocharge

I completed the beta application form back in April and was initially told there were no spaces left, but a few days later I was emailed to say I had been accepted onto the beta. The actual first Waze beta for Android Auto came out on 6th June.

Re: ANDROID AUTO™ AND APPLE CARPLAY™ FOR LATEST KIA MODELS

I'm having trouble with Google Play Music often not working on Android Auto at the moment, but according to my research, there's a workaround which is to turn off bluetooth before reconnecting the phone to the car. Or restarting the phone. I'm also now using Waze on Android Auto as a beta tester and...

Re: Foot Parking Brake

I expect the driver to be fit and competent to drive. For those people who seriously consider a medical emergency whilst driving or a driver getting out without putting the car in park to be a real possibility, may I suggest the easiest solution is having the car modified with dual controls to allow...

Re: Foot Parking Brake

I think that ramming the gear lever in park will lock the front wheels and damage the transmission. The car would go straight on, rather than spin. In the event of a driver becoming incapacitated whilst the vehicle is at speed, you're better off knocking the transmission into sport, then manually sh...

Re: new member here

I've had a rethink and Steve is right about the cost-effectiveness. Even if you charged your vehicle overnight every night and used the average battery range every day of the year, you would drive around 20 * 365 miles per year on pure electric. That's 7300 miles. If you could get the electricity co...

Re: Fuel consumption

My car is loosening up nicely now with 3000 miles on the clock. This morning I managed 72.6mpg on my commute from Wembley to Earls Court in London. I think that's pretty good for a First Edition :D

Re: new member here

Many people in cities have a daily commute of around 10 miles each way. In those cases, a person could charge their Plugin Hybrid overnight and get to work and back without using a drop of fuel. The cost per mile with electricity is about £0.02 if you estimate 20 miles realistic range from the PHEV ...

Re: Foot Parking Brake

The foot operated parking brake doesn't bother me at all. I use it once at the start of the drive to deactivate, and once at the end. No big deal. I far prefer it to a regular handbrake. It horrifies me to think of a passenger trying to slow a car down with a regular handbrake since it operates on t...

Re: Autocar - long-term impressions of the Kia Niro

I've had my Niro First Edition for almost 2 weeks now and I have noticed that the economy is poorest for the first 2 or 3 miles of the day as the engine gets up to temperature. From then on the economy is significantly better. If you're doing short journeys of up to maybe 4 miles, then you definitel...

Re: SATNAV speed camera warning

AlanW55 - Good call on the Kia hotspot app! I had set up the mobile hotspot manually on my Galaxy S7 Edge but this is so much easier than remembering to turn it on and off when I get into/out of the car.
