Re: Winter is coming! Snow chains

Interesting that the 18" rims are not fitted with low rolling resistance tyres as standard; that would appear to be another reason for the difference in fuel consumption between the models.

Re: Real world fuel economy

For my routine commute to work (11 miles of A-roads and generally fairly fast country C-roads) I am getting between 55 and 62 mpg depending on driving style, air con etc. Today I had a meeting in Sheffield so drove from Coventry to Sheffield, then back to the Midlands. On the motorway with the cruis...

Re: Winter is coming! Snow chains

As someone who lived in Germany for a while and had to have winter tyres by law, all I can say is that when we returne to the UK, we kept the tyres and I swap them each Autumn and Spring. Once the initial outlay is done (I was fortunate that I managed to pick up a set of steel rims of the right stud...

Re: Fuel consumption

My mileage is now up to about 3,500 and the fuel economy is creeping up. Earlier this week I took my kids to their karate class, which is about a 32 mile round trip. At the end of the journey it showed 63mpg average. For my drive to and from work (11 miles of A-roads and country lanes) I am regularl...

Re: MY18 build date

Do you mean the 12v battery? The EV battery is already under the rear seat (in the non plug-in Niro) and is a lithium polymer battery.

Re: When should the gearbox change up to 6th gear

My Niro 2 uses 6th on the motorway (just come back from a 2500 mile European road trip holiday so plenty of experience). It is occasionally keen to change down to 5th and even 4th when, if I was driving it as a manual, I wouldn't have felt the need to downshift. I change the settings on the cruise c...

Re: Hybrid Battery Charge Level

Similar experience today, came through the St Bernard pass from Italy into Switzerland, which was followed by 10+ miles of downhill on the Swiss side. During this pet of the journey, the battery charged fully (no smells or other issues) the engine then kicked in and held in gear to provide engine br...

Sat-nav oddities

I'm currently on holiday in mainland Europe and with the Niro having European mapping built in, I was pleased not to have had to replace my old satnav before we set off, since Tomtom have stopped supporting the model I had (allegedly owing to the mapping becoming more detailed and thus filling the m...

Re: Hybrid Battery Charge Level

Hi all. Greenman mentioned getting to 100 % charge and a hot smel!. Do not know conditions which caused this 100% but assume it must involve a long spell downhill. I have never even got to 75% or less than 1block below 50% so no experience. I would have expected Greenmans circumstances to have been...

Re: Hybrid Battery Charge Level

I am currently in the Alps on holiday. It is about 12 miles of near constant downhill from where we are staying to the nearest reasonable sized town; a journey which we have done three times now. Starting at about 40% charged, the battery seems to be fully charged after about 7-8 miles of downhills ...
