Charge points

Having just bought a Niro PHEV I am looking at charge points for visiting relatives where local EV travel would be a benefit.
This seems a nightmare situation since some defo don’t have a 13A socket accessible and a search of charge points shows various costs ranging from free to £4 for the first hour and then £12.
There is an open network called Charge Your Vehicle but it isn’t including all suppliers.
Retail stores seem very patchy and not many.
Zap Map doesn’t list all and so it goes on.

What do folks do for recharging which will be a big issue when the full EV Niro becomes available which is in the back of my mind.

Thanks

I've just joined the forum as I should have my e-Niro within a few weeks! I currently have a BMW i3, so am used to using public charging already. ZapMap and Plugshare.com do list the vast majority of points that are available. The main networks I use are Pod Point (mainly at Sainsbury's), Polar Chargemaster (which also own CYC) and Ecotricity (Only for rapid charging on full EVs).

Most people with EVs rarely use public charging as they can charge at home. On long journeys, people will use rapid chargers en route.

The networks are growing all the time, there are far more chargers than 3 years ago. There could be more, but the situation isn't too bad.

You could give abetterrouteplanner.com a try . Click on settings & you can tell it what car you have & it’ll then show you all relative chargers. Works for UK & Europe. Hope this helps.

I use Pod-Point App on my phone that shows any charge points on a map. Most of my charging is at home and work provide some points.

The Pod-Point App shows the location of any local points and once you're registered (at no cost) it also shows if the charge point is being used, or not. Once connected, just confirm on the App and the charging is free - if you don't confirm, it can only give 15 mins of charge. I live near Peterborough and not only is the car charging free, the parking is also free for 3 hours whilst at the charge point despite being a pay carpark. There are at least 8 free charge point in the City, and free parking, so thanks to the Council for their forward thinking.

I have never paid for any car charging, apart from at home, which is where I mostly charge up my Niro.
