Hi All,

Have got the phev Niro and I’m very happy with it so far.
It is a March 2018 registration and I’ve just done 600 miles in two days to Torquay and back.
While down south I noticed that the Sat Nav was out of date for roads between Torquay and Newton Abbott so I called Kia today to find out about map updates.

They said there was an update due in March but they have only just got the update in the last couple of weeks. They checked for any recalls and it appears I require new rear suspension arms and possibly new alloy wheels. I also see that some cars have been checked for clutch actuator fluid leaks that could cause a fire, they didn’t mention that for my car but will definitely ask about it when it goes in on the 23rd for a couple of days

They said they would only charge me £15 instead of £25 for the update, think that will be up for discussion on collection.

Cheers Brianf

Hello Brianf.
Welcome, good to have on board, with phev.
You have mentioned all the current recall items, which you are aware do not effect every version. Your phev is the only version, so far, effected by the rear suspension/ wheels query.
The possible leak in clutch actuator, seems to be a little more widespread, but effects very few cars, precautionary check only . The door handle issue is so far harder to trace which cars are likely to be effected and may be a 'batch' problem only! . Glad you are enjoying the car.
Will be good to hear if you prefer the updated sat nav over android auto/ waze!?

Hi All
Have had the suspension sorted, which now feels to me a little harsher on rough roads than it did before. They don’t appear to have changed any wheels though.
The Sat Nav appears to be ok, although I don’t like the idea of having to pair my phone as a mobile hotspot just to get traffic and safety camera info. We’ve just done a 500 mile round trip from Lincolnshire to Portsmouth and back over the weekend and all route info and directions were spot on. I still prefer my Tomtom. I didn’t pay for the map update but that was only after, let’s say some discussion. I will look on the Kia website but they still insist there is a £25 cost. Not heard anything about door handle problems.

This is the official reply from KIA UK re map updates.

Kia UK are delighted to announce the release of the latest map and software updates for all factory fitted head units.

Our dealers have now received their bulletins for this procedure but please note SD cards are being posted over the next few days.We recommend making contact with your dealer next week to enquire about making a booking as our servicing teams won't wish to arrange before SD cards have been received and checked.

We can confirm:

- The £25 charge remains and this is to be retained by your dealer for their workshop time.
- All platforms must receive both software and map updates combined.
- Software updates will provide (when available) enhancements to Bluetooth compatibility, additional features e.g. connected services and bug fixes.
- The package includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for those vehicles with head unit / steering wheel compatibility. (Please PM us your VIN if you'd like us to check)

The update is free, the £25 is the fee you have to pay the dealer for the time for installing the update. Only European cars, not UK cars, get the update free of charge.

Thanks for the info regarding the map updates.
Just for information, my neighbor notified me last night that there was a green flashing light on my dashboard. After checking, it appears this was most likely the green battery light that comes on when I’m charging from the wall and goes off when full. Because we very rarely do any long runs, we don’t often use the engine, so the alternator doesn’t charge the 12v battery.
Hence the main battery tops up the 12v battery when needed and while this happens the green dash light flashes. It’s never been noticed before because I usually have the car in the garage overnight.
