Hi all. AA or the phone connection has occasionally been lost or on one occasion just froze. Both required the phone to be disconnected and reconnected which then resumed its destination etc.!
I am unable to understand why or what causes this to happen unless a strong interfering signal occurs. Is this possible, a passing lorry or communications vehicle
I tend to feel that the frequent app updates do not help this!
A freestanding Tom Tom or a.n. other has and probably will always perform better but without some of the bells and whistles that AA Has.

The Kia Tomtom is fine most of the time, but around the M3, A3 section of the M25 it hardly ever reports any traffic when travelling anticlockwise, but works fine clockwise & on other parts of the M25 & other motorways between Kent & Dorset. Now for longer journeys I rely on Waze or Google Maps as they are finally available on CarPlay.

I hope the 'tomtom.com' links I provided will be reassuring.

Connected Services (using the built in 'tomtom') seem to be totally reliable - have found Android Auto not to be 100%.
There are two destinations I use, where AA falls down.
The first, AA tells me to turn left instead of right to reach the destination - where there is no left turn
And the second where AA tells me to turn right to reach the destination instead of left.
Connected services get it right every time.
Very easy to use the 'address book' or 'past destinations' to set a destination and no need to worry if your voice has been interpreted correctly.
Had the car well over a year and can confirm that the 'Traffic' works - had one experience where I was diverted to avoid a major traffic jam.
Speed camera's are also OK, there's one fixed camera I regularly pass where I get an audible warning - haven't come across a mobile camera yet but suspect it will be the same.

Mobile cameras are not that reliably located to my knowledge - Waze on CarPlay is much better in that respect.
One thing I miss when using Carplay is the basic SatNav directions & distance remaining that are in the main instrument panel.

Had my Niro 4 about 18 months now.
Use connected services all the time, it's a brilliant system.
Don't like talking to the car with AA, have found it can make mistakes !
Re speed camera's - I get a few beeps a couple of hundred or so yards before the camera with it's position highlighted on the screen.
The circled road speed limit on the screen also flashes.
Fantastic system, I pass one particular camera most weeks.
Destinations are easily found with connected services POI's and simply saved in address book.
Not a fan of smart phones and leave mine permanently connected to the USB charging socket - in the central glove box.
Phone stays permanently fully charged - don't use it for calls.
Just turn the phone on when moving off and off when I am back at home,

Thanks for all the feedback...
Since my original post, I've changed phones which sorted many of the issues, and can now mix and match between AA and in-car, nav and media. However, I've still had issues where it loses connection to AA. Disconnecting the usb cable and reconnecting it normally clears it despite statements here that you cannot do that when in Drive. I've also had cases where Waze has stopped updating the position, but switching to Google maps worked. I now also have the latest software and maps. I would use those with the Tom Tom connected services except that posts elsewhere seem to suggest that even the latest maps are hopelessly out of date.

I have played music from an USB stick but I have not found out how to play music stored on my phone when connected to AA. I can play the radio, or connect to Spotify etc... I suspect that a setting needs changing on the phone to make the media visible.
