Has anyone else noticed this:

I got my Niro 2 round about Easter, since then, through summer and into autumn I'd kept the fuel economy and somewhere between 60mpg-65mpg (higher when I did longer motorway journeys), but the last few weeks it's got very cold where I live. 5 degrees celsius this morning, that sort of temperature. And my MPG is down to 54mpg and I'm struggling to get it back up. My driving style is the same. Trying to work out if this is because of the cold temperature or if there's something else at play.

Purely the cold weather. All cars suffer this time of year. Many years ago my TVR would see mid 20's come winter you could easily knock 10mpg off that and that was being careful because of the wet.

The engine will run more because of heating, lights, screen heaters etc all being used more.

Hi all. Afraid as others have said winter running mpg is low 50,s particularly if shorter runs. Only answer is to go fully electric and in autumn 2020 early 2021 we should get some better priced options as I still think the Niro and Soul EV s are expensive even with the250 mile range. We will see if i am correct?

I got my 2018 Hybrid in October so went through the winter first. Typically it would report about 5.8L/100 and maybe up to 6.x. I was pleased to see it drop down into 4.x during the summer but now that cold weather is back, it's back up into 5.5-6.0?/100 range again. Really bad on some mornings where a short run may put it up around or over 10L/100km. Cabin heat, defrosters, seat heaters, etc all need the non-EV engine for power and a cold engine definitely consumes more fuel.

In my new 3 we’re getting 50 on a variety of different trips, seems to be 50 regardless of 160 mile motorway or 20 mile city run.

Got my 4 in December and have been averaging 47/48 since then mind you I did run at over 62 in the roadworks around Southampton.

I have the 2020MY 4 version after previously having the 2 model. I am currently averaging 55mpg but this is nowhere near as impressive as my 2 model. That used to average 65-68mpg but on the odd occasion I did record 87.1mpg on a 13 mile trip.
I know the 4 model has bigger wheels/tyres and a host of extras so I'm quite happy and think the mpg will improve as the weather gets warmer.

A bit late to the conversation but the main reason the fuel economy is much worse in winter is down to the heating system. Turn it off and use the heated seats and steering wheel and you'll see your MPG go back up again.

Of course, I'd rather be warm and comfortable, but this works :D
