Eco v Sport mode

I've just got my hev 2 niro. Anyone have any real world examples of how much difference mpg differs between sport and eco mode. I've heard it makes no difference from the dealer. If that's the case why not just have sport as standard?

Loving my new car so far!

mpg is entirely dependent on how much you "put your foot down". Sports mode "encourages" you put it down harder, and hence will give you less mpg.

Sports mode is handy when pulling away from a junction or overtaking , after that , don't really use it ...

Also, in Sports mode the petrol engine is running most, if not all, of the time so that full power is immediately available. Again, lower mpg.

If I'm first in line at the lights I slip into Sports mode, for a quick getaway, especially if multiple lanes, leave all the others behind. Also when pulling away at a roundabout if it's busy, can slip into a smaller gap.

Thanks for all the info and helping me get the most of the car. I haven't felt the need to use sport yet other than a quick test. I do 20 miles each way to work and back on the busy A1 near Newcastle and have this week averaged 50mpg. At this rate I think this car will pay for itself 😀
