Hi All
Just picked up a 71 plate Niro 2 hybrid and can somebody please confirm the usage of the electronic brake...... On other cars i have driven the elect. brake comes on automatically when taking the key out of the ignition , (and also switches off automatically when driving off)....... My Niro does not automatically come on but does switch off....is this the norm/case (or do i have an issue)

Many thanks for any advice

(Also when apart from stopping in a bill would you use the Auto Hold button)

Hello,
Welcome to the forum.
I have a '71 eNiro, so e handbrake most likely to be the same.
It does not apply when you remove the key (I don't have a key of course, so read 'when I switch off'.
All the ebrakes I have come across 'let go' as soon as you move under engine power.
Use of brake hold/ you can switch it on and leave it on, then every time you come to a halt with the foot brake it will come on. It is not just for use when stopped on a hill. Your car should be fitted with 'anti roll back' which will hold the car on a moderate hill for a short time.
BEWARE though, that the brake hold will 'let go' of it's own accord after anything between 30-60 seconds, ruling it, in my opinion. pointless and possibly dangerous. always keep your right foot ready to hit the foot brake, especially if you are on a hill. and don't stop too close to the car in front of you if you are in gear (automatic??)

The electronic handbrake only comes on automatically if you have previously selected auto-hold when you shut the car down. Auto-hold maintains the hydraulic pressure in the brakes when you stop, so you can take your foot off the brake pedal, in effect acting as an automatic handbrake (and incidentally keeping the brake lights on, blinding anyone behind you, although this seems to be the norm nowadays). If you stop for an extended period, say in a traffic jam, the auto-hold disengages and the electronic handbrake is applied automatically. If you don't use auto-hold, then you have to apply the electronic handbrake manually. All totally illogical, but that's Kia for you.....

When my auto-hold turns itself off my e-handbrake is NOT applied automatically, hence my comment about keeping your foot ready to stamp on the foot brake.
Perhaps this is the difference between the HEV & the BEV?
Though I cannot understand why?
Kia do do some damn stupid things though ,so nothing would surprise me.
Only a moron would....
1. put the reversing warning beeper under the FRONT bumper!
2. would have a forward collision warning that does NOT come on automatically when approaching a hazard travelling FORWARDS!
When you reverse. the FORWARD warning comes on automatically, but then turns off above a certain speed.
Why the hell is it even switchable? Why not have it permanently ON?

Interesting comment I have not noticed that detail but will check mine. I thought if you were stationary and adjacent vehicles seen by sensors the camera come on front and back with warnings based on distance away front or back!

The reversing camera come on only in reverse gear (but on some Niros , my 4+ for example, you can adjust the settings on the revering camera to stay on until you reach 15mph going FORWARDS,
Sensing proximity is done at the front by the sensors in the bumper (these are the ones that stupidly DON'T come on when you are going forward unless A. you press the button or B. if you go into reverse before going forward. The proximity being shown on small screen between the 2 main instruments.
Rear proximity sensing is also done by the. bumper sensors with the result being shown on the reversing cameras
Side impact warning (reversing out of a drive for example) beeps loudly and shows red arrow in the direction the danger is coming from, on the infotainmemt screen.
